Fractional Risk Services

Senior risk leadership on an ongoing basis, embedded with your team and accountable for getting the program up to speed. Extensive experience in going from “zero to one” for both the qualitative and quantitative sides of the business, without the cost of a full-time hire.

When a full-time hire does not fit

Many firms need senior risk ownership before they can justify, or find, a full-time chief risk officer or head of quantitative risk. Without it, risk falls to a general executive or a rotating cast of consultants, and the story stays fragmented: one view of cyber, another of vendors, a third of market exposure, and no one accountable for reconciling them.

What we do differently

You get one accountable practitioner who owns both the qualitative and quantitative risk framework, keeps the models current, and presents the results to leadership. Because the same person applies FAIR, graph-theoretic, and tail-risk methods, your cyber, structural, and market exposures stay in one consistent, dollar-denominated language.

The commitment is defined, typically a set number of days or hours per month, with a clear agenda for each quarter. You get senior judgment on call, without the overhead of a permanent executive.

What this can include

  • Program ownership: running the risk quantification program and its quarterly refresh
  • Leadership and board reporting: preparing and presenting risk summaries to executives, committees, and the board
  • Dependency oversight: reviewing vendor and critical-service concentration as your environment changes
  • Model governance: validation and documentation support for tail-risk and capital models
  • Decision support: advice on risk appetite, risk transfer, and security investment trade-offs
  • Readiness: preparation for regulatory reviews, audits, financing events, and first board-level risk reports

How it works

Stage What happens
Onboarding (first 30 days) Review of current risk reporting, models, and data. Agree on priorities and a reporting rhythm.
Quarterly cycle Re-quantify top scenarios, refresh dependency analysis, update tail-risk estimates, brief leadership.
Between cycles Available for questions, reviews, and fast-moving decisions within the agreed commitment.
Review Each quarter, confirm priorities. Scale the commitment up or down, or hand the work to an internal hire.

Who it suits

  • Growth-stage fintechs and financial services firms with real risk exposure and no senior risk owner yet
  • Funds and trading firms that want independent senior quantitative judgment alongside an internal team
  • Firms preparing for a regulatory examination, a financing event, or a first board-level risk report
  • Leadership teams bridging a gap while they search for a permanent hire

Questions we hear

How is this different from a consulting engagement? A consulting engagement delivers a project and ends. Fractional services provide continuity: someone who knows your environment, owns the numbers, and is accountable between projects.

Can this lead to a full-time hire? Yes, and that is a fine outcome. We can help define the role, support the search, and hand over the models and documentation.

What does it cost? Fractional engagements are scoped to a defined monthly commitment. We will agree on a fixed monthly fee after a scoping conversation, and it can be adjusted as your needs change.

The outcome

Leadership gets one accountable voice and one defensible number for risk, with senior expertise on call as conditions change.
